The Rose Report: Happy 2010!

I am writing this month’s Rose Report on the morning of January 1, 2010. Normally, I write my newsletter a few days before it is lovingly delivered to you, just so I don’t feel the nauseating feeling of a looming deadline at the end of every month. However, this month’s Rose Report did not want to be written until today, the day of the new year and the new decade.
I thought I was going to write about how trivial this day was, how time itself is an artificial construct that really has no meaning, and how so-called “resolutions” merely set us up for failure if we aren’t truly ready to make major life changes. The ball dropping in Times Square is a physical representation of that moment where everything is supposed to be “different” – 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. YIPPEE! What a bunch of hooey.
At least that was my thought yesterday.
I woke up this morning, after having gone to bed at 10:30 last night, feeling that yes, somehow, today is different than the day before. My mind raced with images of my dreams coming true, the personal and professional goals I have created, and the many changes I want to make. This year will be when I lose those last pesky pounds! This year will be when I start attracting the career opportunities I desire! This year will be when I let go of the things that keep me small! On and on the resolutions came, willing themselves into reality simply by my enthusiasm and the day on the calendar.
We all have things we want to change or improve. Whether it’s financial, physical, romantic, or otherwise, there is something or someone glorious in our future waiting for us. However, for some reason, it hasn’t manifested yet. Maybe we weren’t ready to let go of expectation. Maybe we weren’t ready to walk a little more consciously. Maybe we forgot to trust in Spirit. Maybe it simply wasn’t the right time.
Contrary to my previous jaded thinking, today IS special. We can take today to set our intention that we are open, allowing, expecting, and embracing all of the juicy, amazing things dancing around the corner. Today we can send that cosmic telegram to the Universe saying, “YES! THE TIME IS NOW!” Then, the harder part of resolutions kick in: waiting and trusting that everything is unfolding exactly as it should.
I wish great things for you, your family, your community, and our world. It is my fervent hope that we all move more fully into our power, recognize the beauty and Divinity in each other, and give back to Mother Earth in deference to all that she gives to us. Let’s make 2010 the moment when we collectively remember who we are.
